Samoa Beach, Eureka, CA

Not exactly beach weather, but we had fun walking and exploring. We found a few treasures!

He tried, but did not get her in the water. Good thing because it is cold!

Sam loves chasing seagulls. She has been running them off for years!

It’s Friday Night

And that means pizza. In this case we even got Costco pizza! That was not the original plan- we went to Costco in Eureka because it was the cheapest gas around. Gas in California is crazy expensive- on average $4.25 a gallon. We were happy to only pay $3.95! We were at Costco so we decided to get pizza and go to the beach for dinner.

The Caldera

It’s not  hard to imagine a 10,000+ foot mountain here that blew it’s top and left the ring of peaks and valleys behind. One last overlook before we head out of the park.

Bumpass Hell Geothermal Area

It’s easy to see how this is a volcano. There are bubbling mud pots, steam vents, and small geysers. The colors are from the minerals in the water. Not quite Yellowstone, but an amazing spot in the caldera of the ancient volcano.

Rematch

During the last snowball fight Sam slipped and landed on her butt. No injuries, but she was very sad that she dropped her snowball. This was an opportunity for redemption!

Sadly, she tripped again and dropped another snowball. This is becoming a habit!

More hiking and views

Can’t you tell how much they love this?

Emerald Lake

It’s green due to the algae that grows. It looked green but clear to us! Sam dipped her feet.

Another Junior Ranger

She has not quite aged out, but has definitely outgrown them. Regardless it’s a nice badge to add to her collection.
