STOP

This was at the end of the narrow road between Hell’s Canyon, the overlook, and the town of Joseph. At times it felt like little more than a bike path! Jim and Ali were planning their motorcycle trip for the next time!

Hell’s Canyon Overlook

It’s hard to get a view into the deepest gorge in North America. This is more of a panorama and less a view of the gorge and river. It was beautiful and we could see for miles. We eventually caught up with the storm brewing in the distance.

It was a good place for a nice cool root beer.

Welcome to Oregon!

Fruit Picking

Blackberries, apricots, and cherries grow wild along this side of the Canyon. Last time we were here it was blackberry season. This time we found apricots.

The Snake River

Still in Hell’s Canyon. Hard to see that it’s about 104 degrees!

Hells Canyon Dam Visitor’s Center

It was closed, but the picture proves we have been there.

“Here’s a quarter (Call someone who cares)” -Travis Tritt

There was a dial tone!

But no spot for a quarter (though it probably costs more than that now).

Hell’s Canyon Dam

There is not much water access unless you have a boat. We did find one small spot to cool off in the Snake River (no snakes). We were in Oregon, but only because we crossed the dam. The road to get here is in Idaho!

Welcome to Idaho!

Oregon Trail Memorial

It was too hot to get out of the car so it’s just the monument.

Oregon Trail Ruts

They say there are wagon ruts here but we had trouble seeing it.

Obviously other people had trouble seeing it too!

Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, Baker City, OR

An interesting spot with an old mine and replicas of the wagon trains that traveled the Oregon Trail.

It would be a slow, hot ride

The old mine. Apparently there was a gold boom in the 1860’s.

Circle the wagons!

Those are some happy travelers!
